Electromyography Amplitude

Meaning

Electromyography Amplitude is a quantitative measure of the total electrical activity recorded from a muscle during a contraction, representing the cumulative depolarization of all activated muscle fibers. This value serves as a clinical proxy for the level of motor unit recruitment and the firing frequency being utilized by the nervous system. Higher amplitude directly correlates with greater neural drive and, consequently, higher force production capability. It is a non-invasive way to assess the efficiency of the efferent neural output.
