eGFR Monitoring

Meaning

eGFR monitoring refers to the clinical practice of routinely estimating the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) using blood markers, primarily serum creatinine, to assess the functional capacity of the kidneys. The Estimated GFR (eGFR) is a calculated index that reflects the volume of blood filtered by the glomeruli per unit of time, serving as the most reliable single measure of kidney function. Longitudinal eGFR monitoring is essential for early detection and staging of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
