Early Initiation MHT

Meaning

Early Initiation MHT refers to the clinical strategy of commencing Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT), which may include estrogen alone or combined with progestogen, soon after the onset of menopause, typically within ten years of the final menstrual period or before the age of 60. This timing is considered the “window of opportunity” where the potential benefits, particularly for vasomotor symptoms and bone density, are thought to outweigh the risks for most healthy women. Clinical guidelines emphasize this approach to maximize therapeutic efficacy and minimize cardiovascular concerns observed in later-initiating groups.
