Dysbiosis

Meaning

Dysbiosis describes an imbalance or maladaptation in the microbial community composition within a specific habitat, most frequently referring to the gut microbiota relative to its host. This ecological shift often involves a reduction in beneficial microbial diversity and an overgrowth of potentially pathogenic species. Such imbalances are increasingly implicated in systemic inflammation and altered nutrient absorption impacting endocrine function.
