Duplex Ultrasound

Meaning

Duplex Ultrasound is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that combines two distinct ultrasound technologies: traditional B-mode imaging to visualize the structure of blood vessels and Doppler ultrasonography to assess the velocity and direction of blood flow within those vessels. This diagnostic tool is indispensable in vascular medicine for evaluating conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, peripheral arterial disease, and chronic venous insufficiency, providing both anatomical and functional information. It is a crucial, real-time assessment of the circulatory system’s integrity without the use of ionizing radiation.
