DPP-4 Inhibitors

Meaning

DPP-4 Inhibitors are a specific class of oral pharmacological agents, classified as anti-diabetic drugs, that exert their therapeutic effect by blocking the activity of the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4. These medications are primarily prescribed in the clinical management of type 2 diabetes mellitus to enhance the body’s endogenous incretin system, thereby improving postprandial and fasting glycemic control. They represent a targeted, glucose-dependent approach to lowering blood sugar with a relatively low risk of inducing hypoglycemia.
