Dose-Finding Studies

Meaning

Dose-Finding Studies are a specific and necessary type of early-phase clinical trial, typically Phase I or early Phase II, meticulously designed to determine the optimal and safest dosage range for a new therapeutic agent. These trials systematically test increasing doses in cohorts of participants to identify the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and the minimum effective dose (MED). The ultimate goal is to establish a precise and efficacious dose for subsequent, larger-scale pivotal clinical trials.
