Meaning

This term describes an imbalance or malfunctioning within the dopaminergic neurotransmitter system, characterized by aberrant synthesis, release, receptor sensitivity, or reuptake of dopamine. Dopamine is a crucial catecholamine that modulates motivation, reward, pleasure, and executive motor control. Dysregulation manifests clinically as issues with focus, anhedonia, impaired reward processing, and sometimes, altered motor function.
