DNMT Inhibitors

Meaning

DNMT Inhibitors are a class of pharmaceutical agents designed to block the activity of DNA methyltransferases, enzymes responsible for adding methyl groups to DNA. This methylation process, particularly at CpG sites, typically leads to the silencing of gene expression. By inhibiting these enzymes, DNMT inhibitors work to prevent or reverse this epigenetic modification, allowing previously silenced genes to become active again.
