Diuresis

Meaning

Diuresis is the fundamental physiological process characterized by an increased rate of urine production by the kidneys, resulting in a net excretion of water and solutes from the systemic circulation. This regulatory mechanism is essential for maintaining precise fluid volume, electrolyte concentration, and blood pressure homeostasis. Clinically, the process is often therapeutically manipulated to manage conditions such as hypertension, congestive heart failure, and various states of fluid overload.
