Disordered Eating

Meaning

Disordered eating refers to a spectrum of irregular eating behaviors and attitudes that do not meet the full diagnostic criteria for a clinical eating disorder but still cause significant distress, impairment, or health risk. This encompasses a range of problematic patterns, including chronic dieting, restrictive food intake, compulsive eating, or compensatory behaviors, often driven by body image concerns or attempts to control weight, without reaching the severity or frequency thresholds for formal diagnoses such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.
