Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4

Meaning

Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4, or DPP-4, is an enzyme widely distributed on various cell surfaces, including endothelial cells and lymphocytes. Its primary function involves cleaving specific dipeptides from the N-terminus of diverse polypeptide substrates, regulating their biological activity. Crucially, it degrades incretin hormones like glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), important in metabolic regulation.
