Diminished Ovarian Reserve

Meaning

Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) is a clinical condition characterized by a reduced quantity or quality of oocytes within the ovaries, leading to decreased fertility potential in women. This diagnosis is typically established by assessing serum biomarkers like Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), often coupled with an antral follicle count via ultrasound. DOR represents a biological aging process of the ovary that is accelerated in some individuals, impacting reproductive longevity. Patients with DOR may experience difficulty conceiving and often require specialized fertility treatments.
