Diluent Compatibility

Meaning

Diluent Compatibility describes the critical physicochemical characteristic that dictates whether a specific liquid, known as a diluent, can be safely and effectively mixed with a concentrated or powdered drug substance, such as a lyophilized hormone. This property ensures that the final solution remains chemically stable, maintains its intended potency, and is free from particulate matter or degradation products upon reconstitution. Clinical failure can result if the diluent causes the active pharmaceutical ingredient to precipitate or degrade. Therefore, using the correct diluent is a fundamental safety and efficacy requirement for all injectable therapies.
