Digital Anxiety

Meaning

A state of psychological distress, unease, or excessive worry stemming from an individual’s interaction with digital technologies, including the pervasive nature of connectivity, the pressure of online self-presentation, or concerns over data privacy. This modern phenomenon can directly impact the endocrine system by contributing to chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. The resulting sustained cortisol elevation can disrupt sleep architecture, metabolic function, and overall hormonal homeostasis.
