Diastolic Hypertension

Meaning

Diastolic hypertension refers to a condition where the diastolic blood pressure, the lower number in a reading, consistently remains elevated, typically at or above 80 mmHg or 90 mmHg per clinical guidelines. This measurement reflects arterial pressure when the heart muscle relaxes between beats and refills. Sustained high diastolic pressure indicates constant arterial tension during the cardiac resting phase.
