Diabetic Kidney Disease

Meaning

Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD), clinically known as diabetic nephropathy, is a progressive microvascular complication resulting from chronic hyperglycemia in individuals with diabetes mellitus. This condition involves structural damage to the renal glomeruli, leading to a gradual decline in kidney function and eventual chronic kidney failure. The earliest clinical indicator is typically the persistent presence of albuminuria, or excess protein in the urine.
