Diabetes Insipidus

Meaning

Diabetes Insipidus is a condition characterized by the kidneys’ inability to conserve water, leading to excessive thirst and the excretion of large volumes of dilute urine. This occurs either due to insufficient production of vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone or ADH, by the posterior pituitary gland, a form termed central diabetes insipidus, or because the kidneys are unable to respond appropriately to vasopressin, which is known as nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.
