DHEA-S

Meaning

DHEA-S, or Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate, is the sulfated form of the adrenal androgen DHEA, representing the most abundant circulating steroid hormone in the human body. While considered a weak androgen, it serves as a crucial precursor molecule for the synthesis of more potent androgens and estrogens in peripheral tissues. Its measurement provides insight into adrenal steroidogenesis pathways. Levels typically peak in early adulthood and decline with age.
