Detrusor Pressure

Meaning

The quantifiable pressure generated by the contraction of the detrusor muscle, the smooth muscle layer within the wall of the urinary bladder, which is responsible for expelling urine during micturition. Clinically, this measurement is a key parameter in urodynamic studies, distinguishing between different forms of urinary dysfunction, such as overactive bladder or outflow obstruction. Hormonal status, particularly estrogen levels, can significantly influence the muscle’s elasticity and neurological control, affecting lower urinary tract function.
