Detection Bias

Meaning

A systematic error in an epidemiological or clinical study that occurs when the outcome of interest is more likely to be detected or diagnosed in one study group compared to another. This bias does not reflect a true difference in the underlying risk or prevalence of the condition between the groups being compared. For instance, individuals receiving a specific hormone therapy might undergo more frequent or rigorous screening tests, leading to an artificially higher rate of diagnosis for a related condition.
