Desmopressin

Meaning

A synthetic analogue of the naturally occurring pituitary hormone vasopressin, or Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH), chemically designated as 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin. Clinically, this pharmacological agent is used to treat conditions such as central diabetes insipidus, primary nocturnal enuresis, and certain bleeding disorders. Its structural modification provides a significantly prolonged antidiuretic effect with minimal vasoconstrictive activity compared to native vasopressin.
