Delta Wave Amplitude

Meaning

The measurable height or intensity of the slow-frequency brain waves (0.5 to 4 Hertz) that are the defining electrophysiological characteristic of deep, non-REM sleep, specifically the N3 stage. This amplitude serves as a quantitative biomarker for the depth and restorative power of sleep, directly reflecting the synchronous firing of large populations of cortical neurons. Higher delta wave amplitude is clinically associated with superior brain detoxification and robust hormonal release.
