Deiodinase Dysfunction

Meaning

Deiodinase dysfunction describes impaired or imbalanced activity of deiodinase enzymes, critical for thyroid hormone metabolism. These enzymes convert inactive thyroxine (T4) to active triiodothyronine (T3) and also inactivate thyroid hormones. This disruption leads to inadequate cellular thyroid hormone availability despite normal circulating levels.
