Deiodinase Conversion

Meaning

Deiodinase conversion is the enzymatic process where deiodinase enzymes regulate thyroid hormone activity by removing iodine atoms. This transforms less active thyroxine (T4) into metabolically potent triiodothyronine (T3) or inactive reverse triiodothyronine (rT3). This precise balance dictates local cellular thyroid hormone availability and subsequent metabolic control.
