Default Mode Network Control

Meaning

Default Mode Network (DMN) Control describes the brain’s ability to effectively modulate the activity of the DMN, a set of interconnected regions that are typically active during internal mentation, mind-wandering, and self-referential thought. Effective control involves the timely and efficient deactivation of the DMN when external, task-oriented focus is required, and its appropriate activation during rest. Dysregulation is often associated with anxiety, rumination, and reduced cognitive efficiency.
