Deep Sleep Staging

Meaning

Deep Sleep Staging, clinically referred to as Non-REM Stage 3 (N3) or Slow-Wave Sleep (SWS), is the period of sleep characterized by high-amplitude, low-frequency delta brain waves and profound physiological rest. This stage is critically important for physical restoration, immune system regulation, and the peak pulsatile secretion of growth hormone. The time spent in this stage is a primary metric for assessing the restorative quality of sleep.
