Decidualization

Meaning

Decidualization represents a critical physiological transformation of the uterine endometrium, specifically its stromal cells, in preparation for and during early pregnancy. This process involves the differentiation of fibroblast-like stromal cells into specialized secretory decidual cells, accompanied by significant angiogenesis and changes in glandular morphology, all orchestrated to create a receptive environment for embryo implantation and subsequent placental development.
