De-Identified Data Re-Identification

Meaning

De-Identified Data Re-Identification describes the sophisticated technical process of linking ostensibly anonymous health or genetic datasets back to the specific individual from whom the data originated. Although data is stripped of explicit identifiers like names and addresses, the remaining unique combinations of demographic, clinical, and genomic data can serve as an indirect “fingerprint.” This phenomenon poses a significant, evolving challenge to data privacy, particularly in large-scale genomic and hormonal health research cohorts. It highlights the inherent difficulty in achieving true anonymity with complex biological data.
