DCI Paradox

Meaning

The DCI Paradox refers to the clinical observation that while D-chiro-inositol (DCI) is an effective insulin sensitizer, its supplementation does not always improve ovarian function in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) as robustly as myo-inositol (MI). This unexpected outcome challenges the initial hypothesis that DCI, as a secondary messenger in insulin signaling, would universally correct the metabolic and endocrine abnormalities associated with PCOS. Clinicians must consider this variability when formulating personalized nutritional support protocols.
