Data De-Contextualization Risk

Meaning

Data de-contextualization risk is the clinical hazard that arises when physiological or biochemical data points are interpreted in isolation, stripped of the essential surrounding clinical, lifestyle, and environmental information necessary for accurate assessment. This risk is heightened in the digital health space where raw biometric data, such as a single heart rate variability reading or hormone level, may be misinterpreted without considering the patient’s unique symptoms, medications, or recent stressors. Misinterpreting de-contextualized data can lead to inappropriate or harmful clinical recommendations.
