Data Commodification, in the context of health and wellness, is the economic process of transforming a patient’s personal, often sensitive, physiological and behavioral information into a marketable product or tradable asset. This data, which includes genetic profiles, biometric measurements from wearables, and lifestyle logs, is aggregated, anonymized, and sold to third parties, such as pharmaceutical companies, insurers, or advertisers. This practice raises significant ethical and privacy concerns, fundamentally redefining the relationship between an individual’s well-being and the digital economy.
