Meaning

A systemic inflammatory response characterized by the rapid and massive release of pro-inflammatory cytokines into the circulation, often triggered by certain immunotherapies or infections. This severe physiological cascade can lead to multi-organ dysfunction, including fever, hypotension, and respiratory distress, necessitating prompt clinical recognition and management. It represents an excessive, uncontrolled activation of the body’s immune system.
