CYP-Epoxygenase Pathway

Meaning

The CYP-Epoxygenase Pathway is a crucial metabolic cascade primarily mediated by cytochrome P450 (CYP) epoxygenase enzymes, particularly the CYP2C and CYP2J families. This pathway metabolizes arachidonic acid and other polyunsaturated fatty acids into biologically active eicosanoids known as epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs). These EETs are essential lipid mediators that exert potent local effects, particularly on vascular tone and inflammation, fundamentally impacting cardiovascular and renal health.
