Cyclical Progesterone Therapy

Meaning

Cyclical Progesterone Therapy is a hormone replacement regimen where progesterone is administered for a limited number of days each month, rather than continuously. This treatment protocol is most commonly employed in women who are receiving estrogen therapy and still possess an intact uterus. The goal is to mimic the natural luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, inducing a periodic shedding of the endometrial lining. This pattern of hormone delivery is a deliberate clinical strategy to mitigate the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma associated with unopposed estrogen exposure.
