Cutibacterium Acnes

Meaning

Cutibacterium Acnes is a Gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium that constitutes a normal and prevalent part of the human skin microbiome, residing primarily within the lipid-rich environment of the pilosebaceous unit. Clinically, this organism is centrally implicated in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris, a common dermatological condition. Its ubiquitous presence is generally asymptomatic, but its overproliferation under specific conditions drives the inflammatory response characteristic of acne lesions.
