Cryptorchidism

Meaning

Cryptorchidism is a clinical condition defined by the failure of one or both testes to descend completely into the scrotum, remaining instead within the inguinal canal or the abdominal cavity. This common male reproductive congenital anomaly is significant because the higher temperature of the undescended location impairs spermatogenesis and is associated with an elevated risk of testicular germ cell tumors later in life. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for mitigating potential long-term complications affecting fertility and oncological risk.
