CRH Receptor 2

Meaning

CRH Receptor 2 (CRHR2) is a G-protein coupled receptor that also binds Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone (CRH) and related peptides, but its physiological distribution and function differ significantly from CRHR1. CRHR2 is predominantly found in peripheral tissues, such as the gastrointestinal tract, heart, and skeletal muscle, and in specific brain regions distinct from those dominating the stress response. Its activation is generally associated with anxiolytic, or anxiety-reducing, and anti-stress effects, counterbalancing the actions mediated by CRHR1. This receptor system plays a key role in maintaining homeostasis and modulating energy balance.
