CRH Receptor 1

Meaning

CRH Receptor 1 (CRHR1) is a G-protein coupled receptor protein primarily located in the anterior pituitary gland, cerebral cortex, and various peripheral tissues, serving as the main high-affinity binding site for Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone (CRH). CRH is the principal hypothalamic hormone initiating the body’s stress response via the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis. Activation of CRHR1 is crucial for the secretion of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH), thereby regulating systemic cortisol levels and mediating behavioral and physiological responses to stress. This receptor is a central player in the body’s endocrine stress management system.
