CRH

Meaning

CRH, or Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone, is a crucial peptide hormone produced primarily by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus in the brain. It serves as the master switch for the body’s neuroendocrine response to physical and psychological stress. The timely and appropriate release of CRH is essential for initiating the cascade of hormonal adjustments necessary for survival and adaptation. Dysregulation of this central hormone is often implicated in the pathophysiology of chronic stress-related disorders, including anxiety, depression, and Cushing’s syndrome.
