CPT1

Meaning

CPT1, or Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase I, is a crucial enzyme on the outer mitochondrial membrane. It facilitates the rate-limiting step in long-chain fatty acid oxidation, enabling fatty acids to enter mitochondria for energy production. This enzyme is essential for converting long-chain acyl-CoAs into acylcarnitines, allowing transport across the mitochondrial barrier.
