COX-2 Enzyme

Meaning

The COX-2 enzyme, or cyclooxygenase-2, is a pivotal enzyme converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandins and other lipid mediators of inflammation and pain. Unlike COX-1, COX-2 is inducible; its expression increases significantly in response to inflammatory stimuli, cellular injury, or infection, playing a central role in acute and chronic inflammatory processes.
