Cortisol-to-DHEA Ratio

Meaning

The Cortisol-to-DHEA Ratio is a critical biomarker reflecting the relative balance between two major adrenal steroid hormones, the catabolic glucocorticoid cortisol and the anabolic/neurosteroid dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Clinically, this ratio is utilized to assess chronic stress adaptation, HPA axis function, and the overall catabolic-anabolic status of the individual. An elevated ratio often indicates a shift toward a persistent catabolic state, which may be linked to aging, chronic inflammation, or significant psychological stress.
