Cortisol Signal Damping

Meaning

A therapeutic or physiological process characterized by the intentional reduction in the amplitude or magnitude of the stress hormone cortisol’s signaling effect at the cellular level. This is not necessarily about lowering total cortisol production but rather mitigating its detrimental impact on target tissues, especially during periods of chronic psychological or physiological stress. Effective signal damping helps prevent cortisol-induced catabolism and immune suppression.
