Cortisol Resistance Development

Meaning

Cortisol Resistance Development is a clinical state characterized by a reduced sensitivity of target tissues to the biological effects of cortisol, despite circulating cortisol levels being normal or even elevated. This phenomenon is analogous to insulin resistance and results from a functional downregulation or desensitization of glucocorticoid receptors (GRs) within cells. The development of this resistance impairs the body’s ability to properly regulate inflammatory responses, glucose metabolism, and stress adaptation. Clinically, it can manifest as chronic fatigue, persistent inflammation, and dysregulated mood.
