Cortisol Reduction

Meaning

Cortisol reduction is the therapeutic or lifestyle-driven process of lowering chronically elevated levels of the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol in the systemic circulation. Sustained high cortisol, a primary stress response mediator from the adrenal cortex, can lead to metabolic dysfunction, immune suppression, and hormonal imbalances. Achieving reduction is a clinical goal for mitigating the long-term negative impacts of chronic stress on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and overall health. This intervention aims to restore a healthy diurnal cortisol rhythm and promote physiological homeostasis.
