Cortisol Production

Meaning

Cortisol production is the process by which the adrenal cortex synthesizes and releases the primary glucocorticoid stress hormone, cortisol. This steroid hormone is indispensable for regulating metabolism, modulating immune responses, and maintaining blood pressure, especially during periods of physical or psychological stress. Appropriate diurnal rhythm, characterized by a morning peak and evening trough, is a clinical marker of healthy adrenal function. Chronic dysregulation of its output can contribute to metabolic syndrome and immune dysfunction.
