Cortisol Metabolic Dysregulation

Meaning

Cortisol Metabolic Dysregulation describes an aberrant pattern in the synthesis, secretion, circulation, or tissue-level metabolism of the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol, extending beyond simple hyper- or hypocortisolism. This state often involves a loss of the normal diurnal rhythm or an altered peripheral conversion of cortisol to its inactive metabolite, cortisone. Such dysregulation disrupts systemic metabolic homeostasis, impacting glucose control and immune function.
