Cortisol Imbalance

Meaning

Cortisol imbalance describes a state where the secretion patterns or overall circulating levels of the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol deviate significantly from the optimal physiological range. This condition can manifest as chronically elevated levels, persistently low output, or a loss of the normal diurnal rhythm of cortisol, profoundly impacting metabolic, immune, and cardiovascular function. This imbalance reflects a fundamental dysregulation of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis, often precipitated by chronic physiological or psychological stress.
