Cortisol Hypersecretion

Meaning

Cortisol hypersecretion is the pathological or persistent physiological condition characterized by the adrenal cortex releasing an excessive amount of the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol into the systemic circulation. This chronic elevation, often a response to prolonged psychological or physiological stress, disrupts the normal diurnal rhythm of the hormone. Sustained hypersecretion is clinically linked to detrimental effects on metabolism, immune function, and bone density.
